NEOPTIX FIBER OPTIC SENSORS INC. ADDS STANDARD FEATURES TO ITS POPULAR “T/GUARD™ FIBER OPTIC POWER TRANSFORMER WINDINGS TEMPERATURE MONITORING SYSTEM

Quebec City, Quebec, Canada (April 6, 2006) – Neoptix Fiber-Optic Sensors, a company specialized in fiber optic temperature sensors for cast and oil-filled power transformers, now delivers its “T/Guard™” Direct Windings Monitoring System standard with large backlighted LCD display and MODBUS RTU communication.

Neoptix T/Guard™ now features a standard 4 lines by 20 characters LCD.  It has an LED based backlight which allows perfect reading in all conditions and has an auto shut-off feature, lowering the power consumption of the system to a mere 4 watts.  The LCD display allows simultaneous reading of up to eight (8) optical temperature probes without the need of a connection to a PC. The display also gives the information related to the system (serial number, firmware version, status, etc.).

According to Mr. Michel Plourde, Vice-President Sales and Marketing of Neoptix, this move adds to the well known T/Guard™ System: “More and more customers were ordering their T/Guard Systems with a display. Everybody will be pleased to know that we are now offering it as a standard feature with no increase of the already competitive price of that system”.

Moreover, the MODBUS communication, a robust and well established industrial interface, is now a no cost option for the T/Guard™ System. MODBUS is available with half or full duplex connectivity, allowing a perfect connectivity to SCADA and other acquisition systems. The system is delivered with control and datalogging software at no extra cost.

It is also possible to add, as an option, an Ethernet bridge to the T/Guard™. This option is perfect for remote operation of the system over extended distance through TCP/IP communication protocol.

“The MODBUS feature enables Neoptix to keep its leading edge in terms of product offering and overall features” stated Mr. JF Meilleur, President of Neoptix. “This is part of our continuous efforts and investments to improve and adapt our products to accommodate customer changing needs in utilities and large power-transformer manufacturers” adds Mr. Meilleur.

Coupled with Neoptix T2 temperature probes, the T/Guard System is specifically designed to directly monitor the winding temperature of oil-filled and dry type transformers.  The improved T/Guard is available immediately. The cost of the system remains unchanged, starting at 3 395 USD.
